Get to know barbs

Barbs are active freshwater fish native mainly to Southeast Asia and India, known for their lively swimming behavior and variety of sizes and colors. Depending on the species, they can grow from just 1 cm to over 30 cm long. Most barbs thrive in groups of at least 5–8 individuals and prefer planted aquariums with open swimming spaces, a water temperature of 20–25°C, and a pH of 6–7.
Barbs are generally hardy and relatively easy to care for, making many species suitable for beginner aquarists. However, some varieties can be aggressive or nip the fins of other fish, so choosing compatible tank mates is important. As omnivores, they enjoy a varied diet of quality dry food, frozen food, and live foods such as brine shrimp and water fleas.
