Get to know catfish

Catfish are diverse freshwater fish found worldwide, ranging from tiny 2–3 cm dwarf Corydoras to giant Pangasius over a metre long. Many aquarium species are bottom-dwellers, while others, like Bristlenose catfish, help control algae. Glass catfish are particularly unique for their transparent bodies, while Cuckoo catfish are known for tricking cichlids into raising their young.
Most aquarium catfish prefer temperatures of 22–28°C, with conditions varying by species. Many smaller species are peaceful community fish, and Corydoras thrive in groups of five or more. Their diets vary from algae and vegetables to protein-rich foods, so feeding should match each species' needs.
