LOACHES

Loaches are diverse freshwater fish known for their bottom-dwelling behavior, distinctive appearances, and curious personalities. Found mainly across Asia, they inhabit rivers and streams with a variety of water flows and substrates. Depending on the species, loaches can range from under 5 cm to nearly 30 cm long. Many are social fish that display fascinating behaviors and may even interact with their keepers, making them an interesting addition to freshwater aquariums.

Most loaches thrive in clean, well-oxygenated water with suitable flow, fine sand or gravel, and plenty of hiding places among rocks, caves, and driftwood. Many species are peaceful and do well in community aquariums, while some can become boisterous and may need more active tank mates. Loaches are generally best kept in groups of six or more when possible. Their diet varies by species but may include algae, microorganisms, and other aquarium foods. A varied diet, proper filtration, and regular water maintenance are essential for keeping these freshwater fish healthy.
